Today, I’d like to describe an elder I have great respect for. It’s Mr. Neil Gaiman - a reputed English author who has ventured into many different genres and built a legacy for himself in the literary and cinematic scene.
Reading Neil Gaiman’s books is a delightful trip down memory lane . I first learnt of him from his arguably most famous book, “Coraline”. The book has remained in the back of my mind ever since my first read due to the relatable protagonist, eccentric supporting characters and captivating storyline. I was so profoundly impressed by “Coraline” that I researched about the man behind the book, and the rest is history .
To talk about who Neil Gaiman is, one must mention his rich career. He began his career as a freelance journalist in the early 1980s, but then quickly moved to a myriad of writing areas besides journalism, namely children’s books, young adults’ novels, comic books, screenplays and nonfiction . He gained acclaimed success with many pieces such as the comic book series “The Sandman” or the adult novel “The Graveyard book”.
Most of his most famous novels and books have been brought to the screen, and the success he’s gained so far not only proved his talent but also turned him into one of the most visible and celebrated authors in this day and age.
Practically growing up reading Neil Gaiman’s novel collection, there are so many reasons why I look up to him. First, as a reader, his ability in writing, commanding the attention of the audience and always finding new inspirations and themes to depict leaves me in awe . His infinite imagination and unique outlooks on life and matters enriches my soul and motivates me to read, as well as explore the world more.
Furthermore, Neil Gaiman has always held a firm belief in self-expression freedom, and has always remained straightforward in whatever controversial issues he spoke up on. His determination in staying true to himself, and in advocating for his justice makes me admire him, even though I may not always agree with his opinions. All in all , Neil Gaiman is a distinguished man of his time, who remains one of the authors I respect the most.

1. What qualities does a person need to have to take care of old people? Hmmm, that’s a difficult question, since elders have diverse requirements when it comes to caregivers. However, I think some traits that most people who care for the elderly share are patience and attentiveness . First, since older people may struggle to perform daily tasks or require distinct ways of communication, it is essential that the person who takes care of them is patient enough to create a comfortable and safe environment for them.
Also, senior caregivers may need to work with elders who have cognitive disorders , such as Alzheimer’s or dementia , or who may be reluctant to show dependency on others. This is why caregivers need to be attentive and alert at all times to the needs of the elderly and provide assistance when necessary.

Do you think old people should be taken care of at home? I think it really depends. But generally, there are also many elderly people who want to stay in their own homes. They may choose to do so instead of moving to a retirement community or assisted living facility because they may be attached to their home and not want to leave the memories and history that are there.
Additionally, they may not want to give up their independence or be around people who are much younger than them. In these cases, it is important to have someone who can check in on them regularly and provide any necessary assistance such as cooking, cleaning, and bathing.
retirement community (n): cộng đồng hưu trí assisted living facility (n): viện dưỡng lão dành cho những người già phần nào vẫn còn khả năng tự lập, chỉ cần giúp đỡ trong một số mặt như bếp núc, theo dõi thuốc men to be attached to (phr): gắn bó với 3. How can people in the neighborhood help the elderly during an epidemic? Covid-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented worldwide social distancing , subjecting many elders to amplified risks of complete isolation and systemic neglect. Therefore, it is essential that neighbors look out for the old who live near them by a multitude of small acts.
Regularly checking in on the well-being of the elderly to help them with errands or shopping, providing them with over-the-counter medicines or disinfecting cleaning sprays and wipes … are some of the practical aid people could offer.
unprecedented (a): chưa từng có tiền lệ social distancing (n): giãn cách xã hội subject sb to sth (phr): khiến ai rơi vào hoàn cảnh gì amplified (a): phóng đại isolation (n): sự cô lập systemic (a): có hệ thống look out for (phr): trông coi, cảnh giác a multitude of (phr): nhiều check in on (phr): kiểm tra xem ai/cái gì đó có an toàn không well-being (n): sự khỏe mạnh, hạnh phúc errands (n): việc vặt over-the-counter medicines (phr): thuốc không kê đơn disinfecting cleaning sprays and wipes (phr): xịt và khăn lau sát khuẩn Chắc chắn rằng tham khảo bài mẫu Describe an old person you know and respect IELTS Speaking Part 2 + 3 phía trên sẽ giúp bạn dễ dàng triển khai dàn bài, dạt dào ý tưởng cũng như thuộc lòng được rất nhiều từ vựng hay ho.
